We went to Raleigh's routine Veterinary appointment and after talking with them decided to get our puppy's teeth cleaned. We went in and upon completing this post-op checkup they discovered that he had a very serious heart condition. Serious to the point that his heart could just stop at any moment and they were amazed that he was still with us.
He stayed for more tests, the results were faxed to a Canine Cardiologist in New York and it was decided that Raleigh would need to start taking heart medication every eight hours to see if it rectified his heart beat. After the first two does I was alarmed to see him twitching and unable to walk, I picked him right up, carried him to the car and off we sped back to the doctors.
There he stayed for the day while more tests were run, luckily it was just too much medicine, they adjusted his dosage and the pills are doing what they should. Raleigh currently takes more pills then the rest of us - three heart pills, two taurine (amino acids) and two Prozac pills daily.
We'll need to go back in a couple months to ensure his heart function hasn't further diminished, but until this this was a good reminder that he needs our time and attention too!
We love you Raleigh!!!!!!!
