Mark Twain House Corolla, North Carolina 2012

After 16 months of discussion, planning, stressing and counting down - our family packed itself up into both our vehicles and headed east for Aunt Heather's wedding.  Joining us would be 62 other family members and friends for a weeks stay at the Mark Twain and Hemingway Houses in Corolla, North Carolina.

Our house was amazing, the beach was right there and the pool right out the back door.

Right after our vacation ended I split the week until two parts, non-wedding prep and wedding prep.  The non-wedding prep time was perfect, relaxing with my family and just what I needed . . the wedding prep, well . . . .it wasn't a lot of work and I enjoyed it, I just bit off more then I should have for a person that was in desperate need of a vacation and all sorts of quality family time.   I left Sunday a little negative, partly due to my own fun-loving demise the night of the wedding and my pending Indianapolis trip for work Monday morning, but now that I've had a weekend to relax, I have a much clearer (and BETTER outlook).

The below is what I grew with over this past week:
  • One has to recognize their own limits, there comes a time when one (gasp) I can be too helpful and volunteer for too much.  So in the words of a great friend, I need to rethink and simplify my life.  At times like those I have no one to blame but myself!
  • I LOVE my in-laws (parents and grandmother)!   They are amazing people, who always put their family first.  They went over and beyond for this amazing wedding and their thanks to me.  To say  I appreciate it is beyond words!  It's for them that I did what I could and am happy that I did so.  The amazing part is I only did about 5% of the work, them handling the rest.  More then anything I was extremely hurt that everyone wasn't appreciative, which is why it made my in-laws thanks even more important!
  • Ahhhhhhhh . . to be in my mid-twenties again!  Honestly, I can't wait to see how they'll all grow over the next ten years.  To see them mature, to watch them realize that they have no stress and hardship now, not compared to what the future holds.  This week was a constant party for anyone in that age group, food made, cleaned up after, woken up when they were needed, some not helping unless directly asked . . .I'm not going to lie, I was 50% jealous and 50% aggravated by it.
  • Girls, You can have your wedding wherever you'd like, but if it's in a remote location, that requires a lot of prep and we'll be there all week, I'll require for it to be on a Thursday or Friday.  Fair warning!
Day One - Monday

The exception (in most ways :) to my 20something comments above!  Thank you Auntie Tori for all your help with our girls!

Day Two - Tuesday

Dune Climbing

 Day Three - Wednesday
The "ladies" headed to the spa!

Day Four - Thursday

Caroline you liked our big shower just as much as any pool or beach!

Thanks to Jeff and Marla for these AWESOME shirts!

 Day Five - Friday
Family Pictures - Katie, About 30 minutes before these were taken, you were all dressed up and looking beautiful I told you that you could watch Mickey Mouse.  You were running towards me all excited when someone called you from behind, you turned to look and ran smack into a pillar.  Unfortunately the pillar was decorative and it caught you in the eye, which caused it to be black and blue for the rehearsal, pictures and of course the wedding.  Intitally I was PISSED, not at you of course, but at the person who was calling to you (for a dumb reason to boot) - but life is life and you looked simply perfect, black eye and all!  All is forgiven :)
